Choosing A College Based On Sports

No doubt that college sports brings name and fame for anyone who manages to become a part of the team. Almost everyone wishes to be a part of some team at least once in their lives. There are various ways to enter a college. Some do so with the help of grades, others do the same by being exceptional in sports. For those who are trying to enroll in colleges out of their league, the first question that comes to their minds is: What are the requirements posed by different colleges and where do they stand a chance. One needs to be honest to himself and know what his capabilities are and act accordingly instead of taking a blind shot. Parents and coaches are expected to be support pillars in such times.

Fact of the matter is that only a small percentage of the total applicants make it to the college or university sports teams. It is this small percentage that has the required confidence and dedication to win matches for their team. Not only this, different sports have different requirements and one needs to fit into the criterion set by these institutions. Those who do not fit into them might as well not bother as their applications would get rejected nevertheless.

Before applying for a college on the basis of sports, consider the physical aspects i.e. players of what built are required, how strong should they be, should they be fast, the kind of training that the team has to undergo etc. If you have the built but cannot sustain the training pressure, you would either be rejected or made to sit on the bench. This might sound harsh but is a reality that every athlete has to abide by. There are some games which require athletes of varying builds for different positions. Always play the position that is suited for your build. Never try to replace others or you might see yourself getting replaced. Coaches do not become coaches overnight but because they have the required experience and know what to do in order to make their team competent enough.

Sports alone are not enough to help a student find his way across. Academics are equally important and one needs to meet the passing grades at all times. A student would never be allowed to continue his education in any college or university solely based on their performance on field. Hence, another question that every athlete needs to ask himself is: Will he be able to handle the academic pressures of the institution. Different colleges have different guidelines and an athlete would have to work twice as much as other students. For instance in the University of Princeton they have a quite strict admission policy.

The above said points clearly mention that one should think really hard before applying to any college. Making a wrong choice can lead to harsh consequences which can cause serious setbacks for any athlete. On the other hand, if the right decisions are made at the right times, one can expect himself to go a long way to the top.
